Department of Marketing Strategy & Innovation, Senior Lecturer; Online Master of Marketing Programme Lead

Dr. Suzanne Tan Ser Zian is a senior lecturer in the Department of Marketing Strategy & Innovation. Prior to joining the education industry, she worked as an advertising executive in the service sector. In 2008, she was awarded the UTAR-Nottingham Scholarship for Postgraduate Study to continue her postgraduate education at University of Nottingham, Ningbo (China). Upon completion, she joined the education industry and was appointed as head of department or programme director in the institutions she served earlier.

Dr. Suzanne has a PhD in Business (Marketing) from Monash University, an MA in International Communication from Nottingham University, and a BA (Hons) in Advertising from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman.

She has been published in journals including Psychology & Marketing, International Journal of Social Science and Humanity, SEARCH Journal of Media and Communication Research. In 2015, she was awarded Best Paper (Early Stage) at Monash University’s 9th Doctoral Colloquium, and a few years later, she was awarded Best Poster Presentation at the 2018 ECEL Conference at University of Groningen. Her current research interests lie in the areas of consumer emotion, consumer-brand relationship, advertising, green consumption, and sharing economy.

Her passion and enthusiasm in teaching have uplifted her career in academia for more than 10 years. In 2018, she was awarded the bronze medal in the AKRI National Competition (Transformative Teaching Alternative Assessment category), and was the gold recipient of the SPARK Award for her innovative teaching methods. Dr. Suzanne believes that establishing trust between students and lecturers is significant to promote a meaningful teaching-learning experience.
