Dr. Md Shamirul Islam is a Lecturer in Human Resource Management at Sunway Business School, Sunway University. He earned his PhD in Business from Taylor's University, where his thesis explored the role of high-involvement working and competence in managing workplace presenteeism and reducing employees' intention to quit. His research focuses on strategic HRM, work psychology, and higher education, particularly presenteeism, high-involvement work, and employee well-being in organisational and higher education contexts.
Dr. Md Shamirul Islam has presented his research at academic conferences, including those held at the University of Leeds and Taylor's University. He has co-authored 11 journal articles published in respected journals such as the Journal of Cleaner Production, Employee Relations, Higher Education, International Journal of Bank Marketing, and Journal of Organisational Effectiveness. Additionally, he serves on the editorial review board for the International Journal of Bank Marketing and is a member of the early career review boards for Career Development International and Education and Training. Furthermore, he acts as an ad-hoc reviewer for over 16 peer-reviewed journals.
He has taught a range of subjects, including Strategic Human Resource Management, Leading in the Age of Digital Disruption, Principles and Practice of Management, Human Resource Management, Business Ethics, and Research Methods. He has collaborated with industry partners, such as Keypath Education and LINC Education, to design curricula for post-graduate courses.
