Department of Marketing Strategy & Innovation, Professorial Teaching Fellow
Prof. Michael M. Dent’s work experience is within the Service sector, and mainly in Tourism and Logistics. He made the decision to switch to an Academic/Portfolio career to widen his horizons in 2007. His current skill set is primarily based upon strategic marketing and complex international project management, strong team building, communications, and cross-cultural skills.
Michael was taught Pedagogical skills while on the research degree programme at London Business School, where he graduated with an M.Phil. Previously, he completed an MSc at City University Business School. He holds a professional Diploma from the Chartered Institute of Marketing, of which he is a Fellow. He has taught Marketing Management at Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia and spent a year as a Visiting Senior Lecturer at Universiti Malaya. He later worked at HELP University in Kuala Lumpur, where he taught Corporate Strategy and International Communications/Negotiation Skills on partner programmes. Michael has also taught in Vietnam, Indonesia, and Nepal.
His previous expertise in Market Segmentation, Product Development, and Pricing, and as a past member of the UK Superbrands Council, led to him presenting at many external conferences in Europe, the United States, Australia, and Malaysia. The viva voce for his PhD, “A reflexive study of the continuous practice improvement of a global professional”, at Universiti Malaya was successfully defended in September 2015.
