Peer Review: What Our Online Masters Students Say

Are you thinking about pursuing a master’s degree, but worried about your ability to maintain a healthy balance between your studies, work and social life? Put your mind at ease with Sunway University Online, where we offer two online master’s degree programmes – Master of Business Administration and Master in Data Science – that cater to your busy schedule.

Both programmes are 100% online, providing you with flexible and remote learning opportunities from anywhere in the world. Each programme is designed using credible insights from industry experts, and taught by experienced and passionate educators.

Students from various backgrounds have enrolled in our online Master of Business Administration and Master in Data Science since they were launched in 2021. Here’s what they have to say about their experience:

Maximum Flexibility

The flexibility offered by Sunway University Online is a distinctive feature of our programmes. Both our Master of Business Administration and Master in Data Science are distance-learning programmes that allow students to study at their own pace and convenience.

Ever since the pandemic, there has been a growing preference for studying online as opposed to going for physical classes, which require long commutes and added expenses. The Global Student Survey 2022 by Chegg.org found that 66% of students worldwide are keen to study online if it means lower costs, while 31% of students who reported a decline in mental wellness upon returning to campus following the lifting of lockdown restrictions expressed a preference for learning from home.

“It is important to have the flexibility to complete assessments and focus on materials at my convenience,” said Michelle Anne, an online Master in Data Science student at Sunway University Online.

Eliza Hanim Ibrahim, who is enrolled in the same programme, appreciates the fact that there is no need to commute to class.

Bespoke Student Support

The most unique feature of Sunway University Online is arguably our personalised, start-to-finish student support. Our Education Counsellors work tirelessly to ensure students are happy and on top of their studies. With end-to-end support, from initial enquiry and enrolment to graduation, students can rely on their dedicated Education Counsellor to help keep them on track and point them in the right direction.

A common problem that most postgraduate students face is feeling overwhelmed and isolated, but online learning doesn’t mean studying alone. At Sunway University Online, students always have access to their Education Counsellor and can engage in discussions with their peers on forums hosted on the centralised online learning platform.

Lee Jun Xian, a student in our online Master of Business Administration programme, shares that his Education Counsellor offers exceptional student support services along with time-management advice.

“My Education Counsellor and tutors provided me with time-management advice, so that I could achieve excellent results in a limited amount of time,” echoed Eryn Khaw, also a Master of Business Administration student.

On-campus facilities are available for use by online master’s programme students, with Master in Data Science student Brendon Soong saying having access to campus facilities aided his study process.

“I find the online platform prepared by the University for remote interaction very convenient, and the campus facilities are still free for use by online programme students,” added Eliza.

Subjects Reflect Industry Needs

Most business trends today relate to the tech field, and our online master’s programmes are designed to cater to current industry needs. In his Forbes article, Steve Andriole, an American information technology professional and professor at Villanova University, pointed out that remote work, automation, and artificial intelligence are just some of the prevailing trends that are here to stay.

The value that students gain from these programmes allows them to develop a deeper understanding of industry best practices and offers a holistic view of the industry, according to Eliza.

Eryn said: “Sunway University Online makes work less complicated for students by pointing us in the right direction. We gain knowledge and insights on various business and academic topics, international cases, as well as participate in intellectual discussions on global issues.”

Immediate ROIs

The students said that the lessons taught and experiences shared are highly relevant and can be applied in their industries even while they are still completing their studies.

“It is good to enrich your knowledge with an MBA, as it is something that you can easily apply in your day-to-day activities, such as administration, leadership, and commerce,” shared Nor Azly Mohd Nor, a Master of Business Administration student.

Likewise, Ong Jin Yew, who is also pursuing a Master of Business Administration, praised the fact that Sunway University Online offers on-the-ground content and practical assessments. This exposes students to real-life situations and teaches them to apply methods and theories learnt in the programme.

Boost Your Earning Power

An online master’s degree helps you stand out from the crowd and can improve your earning potential.

Our postgraduate students are in various industries, from banking to software development, with many keen to climb the ladder further, achieve their salary goals, and excel in their careers.
